BOTOX

Botox is the number one non-invasive cosmetic procedure being performed in the world. This procedure is popular because it is extremely safe, cost effective, and painless. Results are dramatic and predicable. Most patients call Botox their “lunchtime face-lift” because it can be performed in the office setting in about 5 minutes with no downtime. Most patients return to work after the injections with no physical marks on their face.

BOTOX FDA APPROVED

Botox is a FDA approved, non-surgical, alternative to a facelift in patients with facial wrinkling. It is especially effective to improve the appearance of frown lines, forehead creases, and “crow’s feet” around the eyes which are a result of sun damage, squinting, and aging. Botox injections have a very safe track record and have been used for over 30 years for various neurological disorders. Botox is injected into the facial muscles responsible for causing the wrinkles utilizing a tiny 30G needle. Botox reversibly relaxes the muscles which cause dynamic wrinkling resulting in a face which takes on a more youthful and relaxed appearance.

Botox actually works by relaxing the underlying muscles so they do not contract. It blocks impulses from the nerve to the tiny facial muscles that are related to expression lines. Three days after the injections, the overlying skin remains smooth and unwrinkled while the untreated facial muscles contract in a normal fashion, allowing your normal facial expressions to be unaffected.

BOTOX TREATMENT

A typical Botox treatment to a facial area lasts between 4 to 6 months. Many patients combine Botox injections with cosmetic fillers like Restylane, Juvederm, and Radiesse to turn back the clock 10 years or more.

Botox injections can also be placed in the axillary areas (armpits) to reduce the amount of sweat produced by this area. Many brides have a Botox treatment done a few weeks before their wedding to protect their dress from becoming stained. When used in this capacity, the effect can last as long as 1 year.*

BEFORE & AFTER

Botox is an injectable substance which, when injected into muscles, works to temporarily block nerve signals in order to paralyze muscles in a very controlled manner. Repetitive movement of facial muscles is what causes lines and wrinkles, as it forces the skin to fold in a particular way over and over again. As we age, the folded areas of skin become more defined, leaving us with deep set lines we’d rather not have.

The effects of Botox injections typically last from 3 to 4 months. As the strength of the Botox decreases over time, the muscles affected will return to their previous state, meaning frown lines and wrinkles will reappear. These areas will then need to be re-treated. The good news is that if you are regularly treated with Botox, your treatments may last longer, meaning you won’t have to come in as often for re-treatments.
